On February 25, 2023, join Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. in participating in the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser walk. This event supports the hungry, homeless, and hurting in my community that have been affected by domestic violence. All the money raised goes to funding the Women’s Day Shelter here in Airdrie, that provides support and resources to women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.
How does it work?
You sign up a team, or as an individual, to participate in either the 2 km or 5 km walk on Feb. 25. Then each team member asks their friends, family, coworkers, and neighbours to sponsor them by donating.
Then we all come together on Feb. 25 to participate in the walk, and celebrate with a meal afterwards!
Domestic violence is one of the main causes of homelessness among Canadian families. Women, in particular, have been identified as among the fastest growing groups in the homeless and at-risk population. Fleeing an abusive partner is a factor in women becoming, and remaining, homeless, as it is unsafe to live with or return to an abusive partner.
