During the month of love and just in time for Valentine's Day, Airdronians can support their city in style.

The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce launched the ‘Show Your Local Love’ Campaign in an effort to encourage the patronage of local community businesses. The Chamber first came up with the ‘Show Their Local Love’ campaign a few years back and they hope that bringing it back will give local businesses the support that they need. Executive Director, Marilyne Aalhus talked about the impetus behind the campaign.

“There actually was an 'I Heart Airdrie' brand that came out a few years ago, and it was around shopping local," Aalhus said. "The city and chamber came together to come up with the shop local initiative that supported businesses, especially during the pandemic. After that, we actually launched the 'I heart Airdrie' campaign which raised funds in support of local businesses over a year ago."

Aalhus believes that it is important to take pride in your community and by showing support with the #IHeartAirdrie campaign, Airdronians are doing their role.

“Businesses truly are the heart of our community. And the pandemic has shown businesses coming together, working and really showing community pride. For me, it's about all the really fun and cool little shops around our communities that some people don't even know are there. So, we really do advocate that you go shopping locally.”

Aalhus said that Adronians can support businesses in many ways through this campaign.

“We branded some 'I heart Airdrie' merchandise. There are hats and mugs and socks and lots of fun things that the public can actually purchase on the Airdrie.chambermarket.ca website. With that, we actually did some fun contests to coincide with that apparel," she said. “Have fun on social media and use the hashtag ‘#IHeartAirdrie’, and post what you love about Airdrie and you'll have a chance to win some of the cool 'I heart Airdrie' merchandise.”

Those who are wanting some swag can enter into two contests before midnight on February 28th to have the chance of winning one of the 20 'I Heart Airdrie' branded items.

“I have such a tremendous amount of pride from just all the interactions that I have with businesses in the role that I have with the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, ” she said.
