• Chamber event brings different levels of government together

Business owners and community leaders gathered earlier this month to hear directly from municipal, provincial and federal representatives during the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce All Levels of Government Luncheon and Panel.

The chamber’s events coordinator, Cheryl Bishop, said the third annual all-levels-of-government panel was designed to strengthen communication between decision-makers and the local business community.

“Events like the all levels of government panel help ensure businesses feel informed, heard and connected to the broader direction of our community.”

Panellists included MP Blake Richards, MLA Angela Pitt, Mayor Heather Spearman and Rocky View County Reeve Sunny Samra, along with councillors and members of the regional business sector.

Bishop said discussion topics reflected the pressures of rapid population growth in the area.

“Key topics included growth and infrastructure, transportation, the Balzac Overpass, water services, schools, immigration, regional collaboration, and really the realities of supporting one of Alberta’s fastest growing areas.”

Bishop shared that bringing representatives from different levels of government together in one setting provides clarity for employers affected by policy and funding decisions.

“An event like this provides tremendous value to the business community and the region as a whole. Bringing municipal, provincial and federal representatives into one room creates an opportunity for direct and transparent dialogue, so business owners and community leaders can ask questions and gain clarity on priorities, timelines and decision-making that impacts their operations.”

The chamber plans to continue the annual event.

“This marked the third annual all levels of government panel, and we’re looking forward to continuing to host this event each year.”

Bishop described the atmosphere as constructive and collaborative.

“It was a great event. It felt good hearing what everyone had to say, and there was good dialogue all around.”
