A "buy local, support local" event is happening near you this weekend.
The City of Airdrie is preparing to host its annual 2025 Airdrie Regional Home and Lifestyle Show on April 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Genesis Place.
The Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce hosts approximately 200 exhibitors during the trade show from both Airdrie and surrounding areas.
"Canadians are standing up to our neighbours and we're trying to empower each other to shop local and support Canadians," the Executive Director of Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce, Marilyne Aalhus, said.
With Trump's months-long threat to impose 25 per cent tariff on Canadian imports, along with a later-announced ten per cent tariff on energy products, anxiety among local businesses and communities was at peak.
The anxiety stemmed from the confusion and uncertainty hanging over Canadian industries, as they awaited clarity on who would be affected, to what extent and how.
These are local vendors who come prepared to showcase their unique products and services. The exhibitors list could be found at airdriechamber.ab.ca/ahls-exhibitors.
If residents are interested in volunteer opportunities, they are encouraged to reach out one of the exhibiting non-profit groups to inquire what is available.
Shopping and socializing is not all on offer, there will also be live entertainment. One of the newest elements of the trade show is the Rising Stars Talent Show sponsored by Melcor Development.
"We really do see a sense of community at the event and this talent show is just another way to showcase our community, while having a lot of fun, hopefully bringing more people through the door to enjoy our almost 200 vendors, who also have a lot of great things to offer," Aalhus said.
According to Aalhus, the talent show had been a long time coming, but they finally decided on hosting the talent show to amp up the excitement and showcase talented local performers in and around the city.
The 2025 Airdrie Regional Home and Lifestyle Show is the largest trade show in the region and the longest standing event in the region, Aalhus said, adding that, the talent show is one of the biggest attractions for the upcoming weekend.
Residents who are looking to save money at the event can look forward to the having fun in the money tunnel to win great show bucks. That money that residents win inside the money tunnel can be spent at the show.
Fun games and activities such as "Name That Tune" are also a part of the trade show.
"The whole weekend there's going to be fun ways to learn, grow and get to know our community, but also to have fun and win prizes at the stage," Aalhus said.
