Interested in the City’s 2020 budget?

This is a great opportunity to learn about the proposed budget and the process to create it.  The City of Airdrie will be sending out a summarized proposed budget in late October to Airdrie Chamber of Commerce members.  You are then invited to join us on November 6th to learn more about the proposed budget and have an opportunity to ask questions to staff and Council members. 

Did you know?  The City of Airdrie's budget is not that different from a business budget.  Unlike the Provincial and Federal governments, municipalities can not run a deficit.

Presenters:

Paul Schulz – City Manager, City of Airdrie
 
Paul Schulz has been Airdrie’s City Manager for nearly a decade but he first started at the City of Airdrie in 1986 as a municipal intern. Over his 33 year tenure he’s seen first-hand the incredible growth and change our City has experienced. Today he’s responsible to City Council for the overall administration of municipal operations, including a total Operating Budget of over $150 million and annual Capital spending between $30-60 million.  He is especially passionate about maintaining an effective and customer oriented organization of over 500 dedicated employees.
 
Locally, Paul is a past president of the Airdrie Rotary Club, and currently participates on the Airdrie Health Leaders Council.  He can also be found active at the Airdrie Curling Club or playing recreational volleyball.
 
Outside of our City, Paul sits on the Governance Standing Committee for the Alberta Urban Municipal Association and is a past member of the AUMA’s Safe and Healthy Communities Standing Committee. He is also a current member of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators and the International City Management Association. 
 
Lucy Wiwcharuk – Director of Corporate Services, City of Airdrie
 
Lucy Wiwcharuk became a part of the City’s senior leadership team in 2012 when she moved into the role of Director of Corporate Services.  She is responsible for the areas of Treasury, Budget and Financial Planning, Accounting, Procurement, Insurance and Risk Management, Information Technology and Utilities Administration.  Lucy is also the City’s Chief Financial Officer.
 
Lucy received her Certified Management Accounting Designation (CMA) in Ontario and has over 30 years of experience in public administration and governance. Prior to joining the City of Airdrie, she worked for the Confederation College of Applied Arts and Technology for 17 years and the Lakehead Public School Board for 3 years were she held progressive financial management positions.  Lucy also has a Bachelor of Management Degree from Athabasca University. 
 
Working alongside the CAO and Council, Lucy is responsible for the City’s annual Operating Budget, Capital spending and Equity. She is also the Secretary/Treasurer for Airdrie Main Street Square Board (AMSQ) a wholly owned subsidiary of the City, as well as, a member of the Alberta City Treasurers’ group.
